Longing for longer and thicker hair growth? While there isn't a magic trick to get longer and thicker hair, we have listed four valuable tips, straight from the Fabio Scalia experts, that will help you kick-start the process. Press play to check out our beautiful friend Savannah get ready and how she maintains her beautiful hair long and healthy.   Start from the scalp and work your way down Regular scalp treatments are essential to boost your hair growth. If you are a person that does not shampoo their hair often and has a sensitive scalp, your scalp can become oily and dry. By doing in-salon scalp treatments regularly you can stimulate the Sebaceous gland to help prevent these common scalp concerns. To help maintain your hair longer and thicker, you can do the Fusio-Dose treatment. This treatment will moisturize your hair and prevent it from breaking and splitting. Both the Fusio-Dose and the scalp treatment are available at Fabio Scalia! The right supplements for hair growth To maintain longer and thicker hair, the vitamins you eat play a major role in hair growth and the quality and strength of the hair. While we get vitamins from the food we eat, a little boost is most likely always needed. Fabio Scalia recommends the award winning brand Nutrafol. In a sea of all kinds of supplements on the market right now, Nutrafol is one of few that actually has proven results even in autoimmune cases. You can find Nutrafol at all Fabio Scalia salon locations. You are what you eat What you eat plays a huge role in the quality of your hair growth. Tests have shown that if your diet lacks important nutrients, such as vitamin A, C, D and E, zinc, B vitamins, iron, biotin, protein and other fatty acids it may slow down your hair growth, and in worst case scenario cause hair loss. A diet including berries, spinach, fatty fish and seeds have proven to correct deficiencies and help treat hair loss and strengthen hair and speed up growth. You can read more about that here! Brush your hair to increase growth Brushing your hair everyday is key for longer and thicker hair, because it will help distribute the natural oils in your hair. Natural oils protect your hair from damage. No matter what your hair texture is, you should brush your hair everyday. Having the right brush is also very important, check out Fabio Scalia's own hair brush collection next time you are in the salon. Our stylists will guide you toward the brush that will work the best for your type of hair. Schedule your appointment with us today Check out the video to see the process in action.   Meet Mellisa Goodwin We met with model and actress Mellisa Goodwin to talk about hair color. Hair pigment changes in the hair are very common. However, we don't speak enough about how common it is for people in their twenties to experience these changes as well. Mellisa's started to notice some hair pigment changes in her hair a few months back. Understandably, the problem became worrisome and made her very anxious. The right way to tackle the problem If you start to notice pigment changes in your hair color, do not panic! It's very common and can have many different reasons behind it. One of the most common reasons is stress, autoimmune diseases or if you are vitamin deficient. We found a great article that explains the most common reasons here! Mellisa used box color dye in order to take care of the problem. This is the wrong way to approach the problem. You always want to go to a professional hair colorist. They are experts in understanding hair pigment changes and how the hair reacts to chemicals. Consult with them before you put anything in your hair. Box color did not give Mellisa the result that she had hoped for. Instead if left her with undesirable color bends in her hair. This is where our color specialist Giulia stepped in to make sure Mellisa would get the hair color she desired. The Process Giulia's first step in the process was to start by removing the pigment from her previous box color dye. Then, she did a single process color which takes care of the base color. After, Giulia followed with a balayage technique aimed at correcting the color bends imprinted by the box color dye. The balayage technique allowed Giulia to break the bends and blend everything nicely together. Finally, Giulia added a gloss to tone it all down and give it a nice shine! Press play to check out the process and please comment below for any questions, and you are always welcome for a hair consultation if you are uncertain of your hair!   Schedule your appointment with us today Check out the video to see the process in action. Finding the perfect hair color can be anything but easy. At Fabio Scalia salons we love a good hair transformation. Our stylists take pride in staying current, and continually expanding their craft. Their vast knowledge and experience allows them to customize services that fit their clients style, life and personality. Our goal is simple, to provide our clients with a personalized session that focuses on the integrity and long-term improvement of their hair. In other words, we want you to love living with your hair. Color Has the Power to Transform In today's blog post, Brooklyn Height's color expert Giulia Farella gives us a view into one of her client's recent hair transformation and the importance of choosing the right color: The magic starts during the consultation, this is where the client shares her expectations and past experiences with color. At this point, my job is to assess the current state of the hair. For this particular client the strand test confirmed her hair was virgin, which made the process a lot more easy for me. Emma wanted to transform to a medium brown base color that holds and overall natural look. My vision for her was to transform her very dark color into a very soft color. The right hue has the power to soften all of her features and bring out the best in her. Furthermore, I decide in the moment as the appointment moves along, what the necessary steps to achieve that goal. I paint subtle pieces and create my masterpiece. After the appointment is done, I suggest her to come back in 8 weeks to do a gloss. After the service, it is very important to direct clients to the right products to purchase to maintain the color, i.e shampoo, conditioner, conditioning mask. If you'd like to check out some other incredible transformations, check out Giulia's instagram. Let’s face it, not all of us wake up in the morning feeling refreshed or ready to start the day. For those of us who are constantly in a hurry, neglecting our haircare can become increasingly common, especially during the months when we experience colder weather. Identifying the right routine and products to utilize when you’re in a pinch doesn’t have to be difficult. At Fabio Scalia Salon, our expert hairstylists have compiled some great tips to utilize when you're crunched for time.    Don’t wash your hair every day! We say this a lot, but it’s an important topic to stress. Washing your hair excessively can strip natural oils from your hair and cause a dry, itchy scalp. If you must wash your hair every day, use a small amount on the scalp or condition the ends of the hair and rinse out. This will help prevent your hair from looking dull and your scalp from becoming flaky and itchy. Moisturizing conditioner creams from Kerastase or Oribe are ideal products to use to prevent drying of the scalp and hair.    Use your fingers as a comb Your hands can serve as a great tool when styling your hair, especially when you’re crunched for time in the morning. A good haircare tip, pull down your hair with your fingers in a fork shape while drying. Do this on various sections and use a large round brush to remove excess water. Additionally, using various products from Kerastase or Oribe can help quicken the drying process. An anti humidity spray from Oribe can serve as an important styling product to prevent frizziness, as well as serve as a light texturizer. For those with curly hair, use a mist spray and a curl cream activator to prevent frizziness and to add additional hydration to your hair. Avoid using alcoholic based hair sprays, as they dry out the hair and can cause damage to the hair follicle.    And one last haircare tip

With colder temperatures approaching, it’s time to pull out your winter coats, cuddle up with pup on a cold night and prepare for the holidays. Colder weather is synonymous with drying of the skin on the face and body. But many forget that your hair and scalp can also suffer from freezing temperatures. According to the Oxford Online Pharmacy, dehydration from the cold weather and excessive indoor heat can cause brittle hair and a dry scalp, leading to long term damage. Additionally, wearing hats can place stress on hair strands. Thankfully, at Fabio Scalia Salon, your hair salon in Brooklyn Heights and Soho, we have three simple solutions to prevent negative side effects of cold temperatures on your hair. These easy steps can protect the hair and scalp, as well as provide vital nourishment right down to the root.    USE A HIGH-QUALITY HAIR MASQUE  Hair masque (mask) serve as one of the main defenses in combating breakage and split ends caused by cold temperatures. Their purpose is multifaceted, proven to protect and soften both the hair and scalp. At Fabio Scalia Salon, we offer both in-salon and at-home hair masque treatments that revitalize damaged hair and soften the scalp. Some of our hairstylists’ favorite masques (and ones we use on ourselves and clients every day) are from the Kérastase line, available at Fabio Scalia Salon. Kérastase offers a plethora of masques designed for a variety of hair types. The Masquintense Fine Hair Mask works wonders on those with finer hair, while the Masque Magistral is perfectly formulated for those with severely damaged hair. Notably, the Kerastase brand is a leader in providing the highest quality products with the most natural ingredients. The Aura Botanica line is paraben-free and 96 percent of the ingredients are all-natural. The Aura Botanica Baume Miracle (hair balm) nourishes both dry hair, as well as the skin, so it’s a no brainer!   USE HAIR OIL As if the Kerastase brand wasn’t already perfect, their hair oil conditioners are literally out of this world. Le Fondant Conditioner is an ultimate elixir designed for fine to normal hair, so nearly everyone can use it! Its benefits are numerous. Infused with marula, camellia and argan oils, it keeps your hair shiny, nourished and smooth. Le Fondant Conditioner, among other products, is available at Fabio Scalia Salon. Fabio recommends using Le Fondant as a pre-conditioner before jumping in the shower. Simply apply it to wet hair and let the conditioner sit for a few minutes before rinsing. Make sure to comb and distribute the conditioner evenly, as suggested by our expert hairstylists and the Kerastase team.   USE LESS HAIRSPRAY AND MOUSSE As noted earlier, hair can become damaged by excessive cold and heat. Unfortunately, some hair sprays and hair mousses may cause additional damage during colder weather. They can dry both the hair and scalp, leading to dull looking hair and even flaky skin on the scalp, according to Stuart Phillips Holistic Hairdressing. Fabio and our other expert hairstylists recommend using less hair spray and mousses during excessive cold. Kerastase and Oribe offer a wide variety of hair sprays and mousses that protect your hair and allow you to style it perfectly. You can find a wide range of hair sprays and mousses that won’t cause damage to your hair at Fabio Scalia Salon.    Schedule your appointment with us today in Soho Schedule your appointment with us today in Brooklyn Heights Fabio Scalia is an upscale hair salon in SoHo and Brooklyn Heights, New York. With today's endless product options and techniques to choose from, it can be somewhat perplexing as to why it’s important to invest money in hair health. In order to save money in the long run and maintain beautiful, healthy hair for years to come, it’s key to invest in both the right stylist and the right products. At Fabio Scalia, we utilize proven techniques that will help bring your hair back to all its glory.  Your hair is complex Your hair is an important part of your overall image. Understanding the complex components of your hair is something an expert stylist can help you with. Everyone requires different products and styling techniques to maintain optimal health and appearance. No two individuals may be able to perform the same exact hair care routine. Drugstore brands or products with various harmful ingredients may not only be stripping the hair of vital nutrients; they can also cause long term damage by weakening the overall structure of the follicle. This causes hair growth to slow down, as well as dull hair and split ends to show up in its place. Especially during months where we experience colder temperatures. Extreme temperatures weaken the hair structure and lead to a dry, itchy scalp. It’s fundamental to use high-quality products that prevent breakage and keep your hair moisturized. Using the right products Simply using the same shampoo or conditioner as a friend or family member can actually be causing long term damage to your hair. According to the Journal for Investigative Dermatology, “Loss of luster, frizz, split ends, and other hair problems are particularly prevalent among people who repeatedly alter the natural style of their hair or among people with hair that is intrinsically weak” (Sinclair, 2007). Products like Kérastase offer a myriad of products that restore and protect your hair right down to the follicle. We offer products that are ideal for both renewing the look of your hair, as well as rebuilding its structure. Importantly, science notes that using certain hair products is fundamental to improving hair health.    Investing in the right tools In order to understand why spending a little extra cash from the start will help you save lots in the long run, it’s important to know what your hair is comprised of. Hair is made up of a protein called Keratin, also found in our nails and skin, according to L’Oreal Paris. The actual structure of the hair consists of a variety of complex structures, from the hair follicle to the blub, as well as the hair shaft, where your cells reproduce to create more hair (see this link for more info).   According to Design Essentials, various hair tools and chemical processes can damage the cuticle layer of the hair. That’s why it’s crucial to invest in both the right stylist and the best products that are ideal for your hair type. Not all products are made with the best ingredients. Your diet, stress level, and various other factors also play a major role in hair growth and appearance. Additionally, taking a daily supplement, such as Nutrafol, sold at Fabio Scalia Salon, can restore hair growth and maintain hair wellness.   "Haircare can be complicated, but it doesn’t have to be! Utilizing the right stylist, products and supplements will keep your hair healthy and its appearance voluminous and shiny. Book an appointment with us today and begin the journey to optimal hair health." – Fabio Scalia Schedule your appointment with us today in Soho Schedule your appointment with us today in Brooklyn Heights Fabio Scalia is an upscale hair salon in SoHo and Brooklyn Heights, New York.
