The secret is out: Having a professional hair color service doesn’t always mean spending all of your free time in the salon. Here, we’re going to discuss five different hair color ideas that look high maintenance, but are actually easy to maintain.
Changing your hair is the best way to keep your look interesting and fresh; but while all hair changes require a little bit of upkeep, some colors and techniques require more frequent salon visits than others. As much as we love seeing our clients often, we know that your hair is not the only thing on your busy agenda, so we’ve compiled the most low-maintenance hair colors so that you can change your look without filling up your schedule with hair appointments.
Balayage
Balayage, a hand-painted technique, is all about natural grow-out and it allows a seamless blend of the highlights to your natural hair. The highlights start really thin towards the roots, so that most of your root color remains natural, and gets thicker and heavier towards the ends so that you will still have the transformation you want. This allows you to have a bold or subtle change with more forgiving growth. And Fabio Scalia salons have a wealth of colorists known for the best balayage in NYC, such as Lucio Galano in our Soho salon. Call us to schedule a consultation!
Face-Framing Highlights
Adding face-framing highlights stays away from the top of the head and adds dimension and brightness to the face. This is an easy way to add something fresh to your locks that only involves a small section of hair. Since the highlights will only be added around the front perimeter, the bold change literally “frames” your face. Low-maintenance bonus: This does not need to be retouched more than a couple of times a year.
Pastel Ombre
Looking for a fantasy color, but don’t want to have to come to the salon to get your roots done every couple of weeks? Pastel Ombre is a great application method to add a fun color to your hair without having to dye your whole head. This technique includes a balayage to hand-paint the bottom to a light blonde followed by the application of a direct dye in the color of your choice. As the fantasy color washes out, it will reveal the blonde balayage underneath, so you’d only have to come to the salon to touch up the pastel bits whenever you’re feeling the vibe!
Rich Brunette
Don’t let the name fool you; you don’t have to spend all your money on maintenance for this one! Going darker always means easier upkeep. To bring more fullness to your locks, look no further than a glossy, warm brown.
Caramel Highlights
If you already have brunette hair but want to add some dimension and brightness, caramel highlights are the best option. When adding highlights to brown hair, the general rule is to stay within 2-3 shades of the base color so the caramels will blend seamlessly with your natural color. Hair tends to be naturally warm, so keeping the added highlights towards the warm, caramel side will help lessen harsh lines during your hair growth cycle. At our hair salon in Brooklyn, Rocco Crisci is your go-to for stunning caramel highlights!
