Attempting professional-level hairstyling at home is no easy process. But using the right tools is sure to make it easier.  A couple of months ago Fabio Scalia, owner of Fabio Scalia Salons, decided to produce his own line of brushes – professional high-end brushes that style and benefit the hair at the same time.

Fabio, what made you want to produce your own line of brushes?

–  I’ve been using these types of brushes since I started doing hair at the age of 14. It was then, back in Italy, that I realized that I had a passion for high-end tools. At that time, a lot of hairdressers were using metal brushes, but my mentor taught me the importance of high-quality brushes and its effect on your hair’s health. I respected and valued the integrity of the hair so I wanted to educate myself further in this area.
What is the difference between metal brushes and your brushes?

–  Most hairdressers use metal brushes because they think that they’ll get a better and quicker result. For me, styling shouldn’t be at the expense of your hair and scalp’s health. Metal brushes hold heat and don’t have the same heat control as bristle brushes. They could raise up the heat to a crazy level and that can cause severe damage to the hair. It’s comparable to taking a section of hair and going over it with your straightener repeatedly. Also, metal brushes usually have no flexibility so worst case scenario would be to rip your hair off while styling it.

Well, we definitely wouldn’t want that to happen…
– No, we sure don’t want that to happen! The bristles on our brushes bend much more easily and treat the hair in a more gentle way. By using a brush like this, you can massage and add shine to the strands at the same time. I believe that this also allows you to maintain your hair color better. If you want a long-term result and healthy hair, a good brush is definitely a well worth the investment. I dare to say that our brushes get better with time.
