Naturally curly hair – it’s a blessing and a curse. Curls come in many forms; tight curls, loose curls, twisty curls, looped curls…the list goes on and on. At Fabio Scalia Salon, we want you to love your natural hair, but lets’ face it- there are definitely days when frizz and uncontrollable twists take over and that’s hard to love. On those days, a curl set class comes in handy. In this week’s blog post, stylist Samantha Gradilone explains why you should have taken a class yesterday.
“I want to teach clients with natural curls how to enhance them. Hair is often complex when it should be easy, comfortable and chic. In a curl set class, we go over the proper way to shampoo and condition the hair. I teach my clients to saturate their curls from the roots to ends with conditioner (which is very important since it works as a styling agent). I want my clients to know how to part the hair correctly and how to get rid of all knots and friction. In a curl set class, we use clips to increase or reduce volume and to either stretch or tighten the curls. Hair needs to go well with a person’s facial features so we play with shapes to find the perfect balance. In addition to teaching clients the technique, I want to make sure that they leave the class and appointment knowing what products to use for their specific hair type. “
