Braided Chignon This braided chignon provides a classic look that you can dress up or down for any occasion. This look is perfect if you plan to do a lot of dancing, as it really keeps everything tight and together. Half-Up Bouffant Looking to keep it simple? Go with a straight haired look with a punch–add a bouffant to your half-up hairdo. You can get creative with the back of the hair and bangs for this one, or let the bouffant do the talking. The bouffant is a touch of sleek, a touch of chic. High Ponytail Want to feel extra empowered? This girl boss hairdo will instantly help you achieve that “I’m-a-badass” energy. Is your hair turning gray? You can help with the transition in numerous subtle ways. It can be an exciting adventure to experiment with many procedures to see what is best suited to your personality and appearance. Just imagine the freedom that is derived from knowing that you may never have to dye your hair again to be attractive! There is a medley of choices that's all the rage which can easily blend in with your natural hair color. We asked our colorists for their best advice and this is what they suggested: “The changeover to gray hair color could be a tough challenge, especially if your hair is long. If a client has dark hair, adding lowlights would be a good option to consider for an easier transition. You would add your base color into the gray hair, so to break the line of demarcation between regrowth and colored hair. A client who is naturally light could stop doing a base color and just do highlights to transition. The process of becoming gray is individual and cannot be the same for all. Therefore, I highly recommend all clients to come in for a consultation. As hair turns gray when we get older, the texture also changes. Embracing not only your grays, but also the new texture, will require looking for a new hairstyle and changing your choice of products”. – Lucio Galano, Color Director, Soho Here are just a few of the most trendy ideas to get you started: Highlights is a process that gradually makes the transition easy so that the changes will not stand out like a “sore thumb.” Mixed Ash Gray Highlights add many hues, like deep brown lowlights, silver, and ash gray. Such a combination is stunning. Lowlights will gently help you ease into the transition. Gray Brown Layered Cut. See how effortlessly the hues blend in to smoothly make the transition and emerge with an attractive, dramatic combination. Gray Blonde Hair. Blending light golden blonde with ash gray hues is one of the most artful techniques that transforms your hair into a style worth admiring. Chunky Silver Highlights is as alluring as it sounds. You will turn heads with this extraordinary explosion of highlights and shadow roots. You may just want to keep your gray hair You can help with the transition by indulging in the many options available that will keep you looking amazing. Choose a slightly darker shade to blend in with your natural hair color. Embrace highlights. You may also simply decide to keep your beautiful gray hair! Is your hair turning gray? Now, more than ever, millions are working at home and learning how to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic shutting down their business. As well as for safety purposes, many people are conducting online meetings utilizing Zoom - and it has been quite the change! This past year has taught us how to work and live life in a completely virtual world. So, what exactly does all of this have to do with beauty and the way you look? Everything! Despite the fact that you aren’t in your office, you should still be striving to look your absolute best during your Zoom video calls - everyone can see you! So, how exactly do you master the Zoom video call? There are many factors that take place when it comes to looking your best, lighting, facial framing, and so much more. At Fabio Scalia Salons we take your beauty very seriously and our #1 priority is making sure you look your best all while being in a comfortable and clean environment. Contact us today for more information about our beauty packages. Let’s learn a little bit more about how to absolutely rock your Zoom video calls from now on! Lighting Really Is Everything When It Comes To Zoom Video Calls Whether it’s natural lighting or lighting produced from something like a ring light, it’s absolutely necessary to use lighting to your advantage during your Zoom video call. We suggest using a ring light - they are super cheap and can be found either online or in stores. They provide excellent professional lighting for a fraction of the cost, and with the right makeup and hair style, a ring light will quite literally make you look like you're glowing and your eyes will be brighter. Natural lighting is also great if you have an open space that natural light can flow through, just be sure to recognize how much light you're pulling in - you don’t want the natural light to drown you out. Lighting is actually where most people fail when it comes to Zoom video calls. Most people have what’s called a “shady face,” where most of their face is blocked out by the natural shade within your home. If you don’t have a ring light, grab your nearest lamp and set it up next to your computer - directly by your face. Sidelight and backlight are a no-go, as it will create a negative contrast. As for direct sunlight, face your window - don’t have the window behind you - this will create a silhouette that will leave you looking like a shadow. Keep Your Background Clean During Your Zoom Video Call Though this may seem like a no-brainer, a cluttered and messy background during your Zoom video call will really irritate some people, and in addition, it will distract you too. Make sure you declutter your background and sit somewhere that looks professional enough and mess-free. Keep things plain and simple - you want people looking at your face rather than a bunch of background “noise.” Keep Things At Eye Level Do you really want people looking up your nostrils? Make sure that you are at eye level with your webcam and that it isn’t tilted up during your Zoom video call. In fact, the camera under the face is absolutely one of the most unflattering looks you can possibly have on your Zoom video call. Look at your camera directly, straight ahead. And if this doesn’t quite work out for you, stack some books under your laptop to ensure that you are maintaining eye level contact with your peers. Remember To Simply Be Yourself On Zoom The most beautiful look you can possibly adorn is just to simply be yourself. With the proper lighting and angles, you will look great! But, if you have a good attitude, you will glow. Remember that these are your colleagues and your bosses - they want to know your true attitude and they want to see you smiling and happy for the company that you’re a part of! No matter how beautiful or handsome you look, a sour attitude will absolutely not help you when it comes to looking your best and nailing those regular zoom video calls. In our last blog post we talked about what makes for a successful hair salon visit. A good salon visit leaves you feeling beautiful and reinvigorated. The hair diagnosis is the most crucial step of the salon consultation. Why is a hair diagnosis important? The whole idea behind a hair diagnosis is for the stylist to determine the best course of action to address the current issues you are experiencing with your hair and scalp. At Fabio Scalia salons, our aim is to provide a personalized hair care regimen that is unique to your hair concerns. Is hair diagnosis just another fancy word for a salon consultation? Good question! A hair diagnosis is much more thorough and comprehensive. During a diagnosis the hairdresser will take a closer look at your scalp and hair fiber. Furthermore, it lets the stylist determine what are the most appropriate and beneficial treatments for you, as well as the right products for you to use at home. Fabio Scalia is thrilled to welcome Veigas to our SoHo salon team. Veigas is an incredibly talented hair stylist that has been working in the hair industry for the last ten years. I sat down with her to chat a little bit about all things hair. “As a hair stylist you must not only understand what your client wants, but in order to deliver that you must first gain a clear view of their lifestyle, personality, attitudes, interests, the way they carry themselves. These are all the things I like to find out before creating a look for someone.” For Veigas, being a good listener is a requisite to become a successful hair stylist. She agrees, "the consultation is the most vital part of the hair salon visit." It is during consultation that she is able to delve into the world of the client. Her determination and drive is fueled by inspiration. Her own professional experiences have taught her that education feeds inspiration. Thus, Veigas is a strong believer in the power of constant education. She emphasizes that remaining ahead of the curve and on top of trends is what sets apart the top hairstylists from the rest. Veigas is available for bookings in the Fabio Scalia SoHo salon. Located at 311 W Broadway New York, NY To book an appointment call 212-343-0523 or click here to book online.

Meet Mellisa Goodwin We met with model and actress Mellisa Goodwin to talk about hair color. Hair pigment changes in the hair are very common. However, we don't speak enough about how common it is for people in their twenties to experience these changes as well. Mellisa's started to notice some hair pigment changes in her hair a few months back. Understandably, the problem became worrisome and made her very anxious. The right way to tackle the problem If you start to notice pigment changes in your hair color, do not panic! It's very common and can have many different reasons behind it. One of the most common reasons is stress, autoimmune diseases or if you are vitamin deficient. We found a great article that explains the most common reasons here! Mellisa used box color dye in order to take care of the problem. This is the wrong way to approach the problem. You always want to go to a professional hair colorist. They are experts in understanding hair pigment changes and how the hair reacts to chemicals. Consult with them before you put anything in your hair. Box color did not give Mellisa the result that she had hoped for. Instead if left her with undesirable color bends in her hair. This is where our color specialist Giulia stepped in to make sure Mellisa would get the hair color she desired. The Process Giulia's first step in the process was to start by removing the pigment from her previous box color dye. Then, she did a single process color which takes care of the base color. After, Giulia followed with a balayage technique aimed at correcting the color bends imprinted by the box color dye. The balayage technique allowed Giulia to break the bends and blend everything nicely together. Finally, Giulia added a gloss to tone it all down and give it a nice shine! Press play to check out the process and please comment below for any questions, and you are always welcome for a hair consultation if you are uncertain of your hair!
