Over the past months, our hair has put up with dehydrating agents such as the sun, chlorine and saltwater. This could have a huge effect on the health of your hair and scalp and in the worst-case scenario lead to unnecessary hair thinning. There is a shift in season and with it comes a new hair wellness routine. In this week’s blog post, we tell you how to bring your hair back to life.  Condition, Condition, Condition  The key to hair wellness is proper conditioning. If your hair is really dehydrated, we recommend doing 2 to 3 treatments that fulfill your needs and gives your hair the moisture it needs. In our New York City locations, we offer the very popular Milbon treatments as well as take-home masks from Oribe and Kérastase. Remember, breakage travels inside the cortex which leads us to tip #2.Get regular trims If you want a healthy and thick mane, the scissors are your best friend. Make sure to be consistent with your trims so your split ends won’t work their way up to your strands.  “Waiting too long between your appointments will cause split ends and breakage higher up on the strand. This will result in your stylist needing to give you a shorter style than if you get consistent trims,” says Fabio Scalia. For overall wellness: Invest in Nutrafol  At Fabio Scalia, we focus on long-term growth and results. It’s important to have in mind that stress, diet and environmental toxins are all factors proven to compromise the wellness of your hair. At our salons, we offer our clients Nutrafol, a 100% drug-free supplement to prevent hair thinning. It’s perfect for those who find it hard to cover all vitamins needed for optimal nutrition in their daily diet. Gigi Hadid for H&M X Balmain In the world of fashion, style always seems to be changing. What is trending one season may be passé the next. In fact, some styles don’t seem to last longer than a couple of weeks, and navigating the world of hair is no different. It may seem impossible to keep up with all the latest hair news and stay in style. So how do you know if you’re keeping up with trends or not?“When choosing a hairstyle, you need to have the entire look in mind. The style has to go well with your facial features, coloring, skin tone and hair type, not to mention your personality and lifestyle. You can have a very Avant Garde hairstyle but that still wouldn’t look stylish if it doesn’t go well with the rest of your look. It all comes down to what fits you. We want to give you a style that is trendy but still timeless, without having to compromise with your hair’s integrity. Our vision is that you leave the salon with a style that looks today, tomorrow and all future days." Fabio ScaliaWhether it's the return of the 60’s bangs, the wet look, or a short bob, springtime brings with it the perfect opportunity to test out the most coveted hairstyles and hair trends working their way down the runways and onto the streets. In a recent blog post, we talked about the importance of training and how continuing education allows us to stay up to date with the latest trends and techniques. At Fabio Scalia Salons, we are happy to help you find the hairstyle that fits you best. Schedule your consultation with us today here (Soho) or here (Brooklyn).

Lily Aldrige Contouring is a concept most people are familiar with today (we thank Kim K for that). The technique of sculpting something to look aesthetically pleasing has been making the rounds in beauty circles for years, but did you know you can do the same with your hair? We see this on the red carpet, in magazines and on celebrities – face framing highlights are here to stay and we will be seeing much more of this trend in 2018. Imagine you were going to the beach for weeks with your hair up in a ponytail. Only strands exposed to the sun will become lighter and as a result: brighter hair around the face. “If you want to achieve this natural look, I would suggest to not go brighter than two levels from your natural hair color”, says colorist Claudia Decicco. These type of highlights are great for clients who have never done color before, since it’s not as extreme as a full head of highlights. It’s also excellent for people who are dark brunettes and transitioning into becoming gray, as the changeover would become a bit softer. “From a colorist’s perspective, face framing highlights are probably the best way for me to get to know my client’s hair and condition as you only need to color a few locks for the result”, says Decicco. She goes on to say, “As a colorist, there are a lot of factors for me to take into consideration when I meet a new client; skin tone, natural pigments, eye color, and lifestyle to mention a few. You need to look at the whole picture to achieve the best results. Truth is, each client is individual but adding subtle highlights to lighten the hair around the face is an easy way to achieve a youthful and fresh look.” – Claudia Decicco, Colorist Soho Ready to try out this trend?
