  Shampoo. Rinse. Conditioner. Rinse. How hard can it be? Washing your hair might seem like the easiest thing to do but there are a couple of hair washing mistakes that most of us are guilty of – without even thinking about it! Bad news: you’re probably doing it the wrong way. The good news: we’re going to help you fix it. Get healthy, beautiful hair that is full of bounce by avoiding the mistakes listed below. Hair washing mistake #1: Your washing technique needs some fine-tuning The fact is that a lot of people make this hair washing mistake. Most people apply shampoo to the roots and add more product as they wait for it to lather up. Remember that hair tend to be dirtiest at the roots and drier towards the ends, so apply shampoo to the scalp and work your way down. And do not forget to be generous with the massage! Hair washing mistake #2: You’re using the wrong products The wrong products can leave your hair feeling dry, weighed down, and lifeless. Make sure to pick a shampoo and conditioner for your specific hair type. Not sure what’s best for you? Ask your hairstylist next time you visit the salon. Hair washing mistake #3: You’re shampooing only once So you keep applying shampoo until it starts to lather? This is not only a waste of product but it also does unnecessary damage to your hair. The first time you shampoo your hair you are getting rid of loose dirt and old product and the shampoo will not produce much lather. The second shampoo will produce much more lather because you are starting with a cleaner scalp. So next time, try shampooing twice with less product instead of once with more. (check out Oribe site for ideas on which shampoo to use) Hair washing mistake #4: You’re washing your hair too often The natural oils from your scalp nourish your hair and keep it hydrated and protected. Washing your hair too often can result in a dry and lifeless mane. So how often should you wash it? It depends on your hair type. For example, if you have dry hair, washing it too often would make it drier and weaker. On the other hand, if your hair is oily, you might have to wash it every other day so it doesn’t look greasy. If your hair gets oily fast try adding a dry shampoo to your styling routine. Hair washing mistake #5: You’re cheating with masks Can’t remember the last time you treated yourself with a hair mask? No judging – it happens to everyone! Applying a hair mask should be easy. However, if you have time and are committed to getting healthy hair, try sleeping with a mask. Apply the product and cover with a silk scarf, rinse out in the morning and wake up with silky hair. My clients are constantly telling me that there’s nothing quite like a great blow out. They feel transformed when they leave the salon with a shiny, bouncy, glamorous blow out. It’s amazing how uplifting something so simple can be. How your day, your outfit and even your attitude can be so dramatically improved. But how long, you may have wondered, can that wonderful feeling last?  Here at Fabio Scalia Salon we feel that, with the appropriate amount of TLC, a good blow out should be able to last between 4 and 6 days. That is why this weeks beauty tip is dedicated to making your blow dry last. Our stylist, Theresa Belloni, put together a list of five ways to make a blow out last up to a week. Whether you are doing it yourself or having it done professionally, follow Theresa’s tips for a lasting blow out: 1) To begin with, make sure your hair is extremely clean. This will require two shampoos. It is important that you, or the person washing your hair, really massages your hair at the roots to make sure your scalp gets clean. The cleaner the better! A beautiful blowout on a dirty scalp is a failure waiting to happen. 2) If you are doing your own blow out, make sure that the blow dryer you are using gets really hot. Also, make sure it is fast-drying, to prevent hair damage. We carry the T3 line of blow dryers as well as the Parlux, which will both do the trick. I’m sorry to say, but it is impossible to achieve a proper blowout with a bargain dryer. They are just not powerful enough. 3) When you go to sleep at night put your hair up. Do NOT use a traditional elastic hair tie because you will get that “dent” that signifies the demise of your blowout. Instead, for volume the next day, put your head upside down and gather your hair into a loose bun on top. Secure with a ribbon hair tie, like these by Sephora, or any cloth hair tie that does not have a lot of elastic. If you are not trying to achieve volume, tilt your head back and pull hair into a low, tight bun just above your neck. Secure the same way. A high bun for volume
